Ingredients

Protein
  • 1350 g chicken wings Split into flats and drumettes
Sauce
  • 360 ml barbecue sauce Thick barbecue sauce recommended for stickiness
  • 120 ml honey

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker Essential for cooking wings evenly.
  • Baking Sheet For broiling the wings to achieve a caramelized finish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels.
  2. Lightly grease the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Arrange the chicken wings evenly inside the slow cooker.
Sauce Preparation
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce and honey until smooth.
  2. Pour about three-quarters of the honey barbecue mixture over the chicken wings, reserving the remaining sauce for finishing.
  3. Gently toss the wings until evenly coated in the sweet barbecue sauce.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on LOW for 3–4 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours, until the wings are tender and reach an internal temperature of 74°C.
Finishing
  1. Carefully remove the cooked wings from the slow cooker using tongs.
  2. Arrange the wings in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  3. Brush the wings with the reserved honey barbecue sauce.
Broiling
  1. Preheat the oven broiler to HIGH. Place the wings approximately 15 cm below the heating element.
  2. Broil for 3–5 minutes, watching carefully, until the barbecue glaze becomes sticky and lightly caramelized.
  3. Turn the wings over, brush with any remaining sauce, and broil for another 2–3 minutes until lightly browned.
Final Steps
  1. Carefully return the glazed wings to the slow cooker, discarding excess watery cooking liquid first.
  2. Set the slow cooker to WARM and gently toss the wings to coat them in the sticky glaze.
  3. Serve warm directly from the slow cooker.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider garnishing with chopped green onions or sesame seeds before serving.
